Belated General Conference Printables – April 2014

It can’t really be the end of June already…can it?? I had so many plans to get these General Conference quotes up during conference weekend. Sigh. Unfortunately, moving across the country with two toddlers consumed my life for the last few months! Oh well! Better late than never, right?

I am very grateful for living prophets and apostles who guide us in this crazy world that we live in. I trust that they have our best interests at heart, and I trust that they will approach the Lord to receive the teachings we need in our day and in our time. I know that God lives and that Christ is the head of the Church, and that He reveals His doctrine through the living prophet. I feel blessed to have been able to listen to conference and learn more about all of the things I should be doing better in my life, and to restore my hope and faith in my Savior and His plan for me and my family.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the April 2014 LDS General Conference (in no particular order):

“Pure Christlike love flowing from true righteousness can change the world.”

(I’m hoping to post some more quotes soon…but don’t hold your breath. My memory is shot these days with my pregnant brain!)

What were some of your favorite quotes that I missed? I’d love your suggestions~!

General Relief Society Broadcast 2013 Thoughts

I’m not going to lie…I didn’t catch much of the General Relief Society broadcast last night. I had plans to watch with my mother and sisters, but the stomach flu overcame me and my children, so our plans turned into crackers, water, and sleeping near the toilet. Not much of a glamorous or spiritual evening like I was hoping for. 😦

However, I did listen to the broadcast this morning (since I couldn’t make it to church either…dang flu! Go away!) and was amazed at the importance of the messages for me in my life right now. Note after note, spiritual revelation after revelation, I learned what Heavenly Father wanted me to learn this morning.

I loved the focus of making and keeping covenants. I loved that we were taught how to teach our children to keep simple promises to prepare to make baptismal and temple covenants. I appreciated how much love I felt from the sisters and from President Monson, and how reassuring their words of peace and comfort were. I learned that when I am struggling with loving or serving one of my sisters (in RS or elsewhere), I need to turn to Heavenly Father to ask Him what I should do; after all, these women are His children and He knows their needs.

Here are three quotes that stood out to me in particular this morning:

“We go to the temple to make covenants with Heavenly Father. We return home to keep them.”

“You aren’t tied down any more. You are free.”

“Keeping covenants is essential for true happiness.”

I have been experiencing some discouragement in my life, feeling like I will never have the true happiness that I desire. The talks I heard today reminded me that I can have the true happiness I want and seek for as I keep my covenants. I keep them, in the sense that I don’t to anything “wrong” in my life, but I know I can magnify my talents and abilities and serve more and truly keep my covenants. I need to put my covenant-keeping as a priority and attend the temple more. I am not tied down by my sins or problems of the past; I am free to live the life that God has given me and achieve my full potential.

I know that our living prophet, Thomas S. Monson, is a true prophet of God. I know that the Relief Society presidency has been called by revelation to inspire, uplift, and teach the women of the Church how to be more Christlike and more obedient. I know that the Spirit of God was present during the broadcast, and I am humbled by the things He taught me. I know that the Church is true.

What messages stood out to you the most during the broadcast?

Real Happiness, Time, and Talents

In 2007, President Thomas. S. Monson gave a talk to students at a Brigham Young University devotional (click here to read it). As I read through it, I kept finding more and more quotes that I thought were so important for my life. I picked two of them to share with you today, and encourage you to read his talk and tell me more of your favorite quotes from it.

The first one says, “To find real happiness, we must seek for it in a focus outside ourselves.” I have found this to be SO true in my life. The more self-centered I become, the less happy I become. When I seek for happiness by helping others, doing service, or sharing the gospel, I am the most happy I can be. My life right now is full of happiness, REAL happiness, and I feel like it is because I am doing my best to serve others and make them happy.

The next quote says, “…your time is valuable, your talents are many, and your future is bright.” Our time on this earth really is valuable, because we only have a short time to live, and the seasons of our lives change so quickly. God expects us to make the best out of our time here, not only to learn the gospel and live it to the fullest, but also to enjoy the blessings that the world has to offer. We are each endowed with amazing talents and ways that we can bless others, and we need to wisely use our time to build our talents. Our future is bright, regardless of our life situations, because Christ has atoned for our sins and provided us a path back to God, including a promise that our bodies will be resurrected and perfected. That is the brightest future I could imagine!

I needed these sweet reminders, and hope to remind my children of them frequently. I desire to seek happiness and use my time and talents to build the Church.

How have you found happiness in a focus outside yourself?
